According to forklift manufacturer Still, the vision of accident-free intralogistics is "within reach." To achieve this, not only innovative technical solutions for vehicles but also effective training concepts for employees are needed. Assistance systems and online seminars are helping.
Dangers lurk right from the start of a shift, potentially resulting from negligent or even deliberate misconduct. For example, vehicles are used without authorization, such as by individuals without a driver's license or whose driving ability is impaired. It also becomes dangerous when drivers use damaged vehicles or those unsuitable for the task, perhaps unknowingly or without considering the potential consequences.
Systems that ensure only suitable vehicles in perfect working order are used by qualified operators provide a solution. One such system at Still is the Pre-Shift Check in the on-board computer: Before the start of each shift or at user-defined intervals, the must confirm the vehicle's operational readiness via the on-board computer before activating all its functions .

The FleetManager 4.x access control system also offers a comprehensive suite of reports and telematics applications that provide an overview of forklift operations on the premises. Acceleration sensors allow for monitoring of driving style and, if necessary, intervention in the vehicle's control system. "The sensor detects mechanical shock events and immediately reduces speed. This allows, for example, reckless drivers who pose a danger to people and equipment to be quickly stopped," says product trainer Janos Poppe.
After successful access control, the journey through the warehouse begins. From this moment on, there is a risk of collisions on the aisles. Warning zone lighting has proven effective in practice . This optional lighting system acts as a visual warning for pedestrians and other drivers in the immediate vicinity by projecting light strips onto the warehouse floor next to the vehicle. It's a good complement to the existing SafetyLight.

Radio-based safety systems represent a major step towards completely preventing collision damage to people and vehicles. "The basic principle of these systems is to establish bidirectional communication via radio waves between vehicles, people, and stationary facilities, even without line of sight. To achieve this, these facilities, as well as all people and vehicles, are equipped with radio modules," explains press spokesman Jürgen Wrusch. With their help, vehicle control in hazardous areas can be automated, for example, by reducing speed.
