The sharp sword of the «Traigo Knights»

In modern parlance, the new Traigo 48, which Toyota Material Handling showcased at LogiMAT alongside the new Optio L-series, would be an eye-catcher. A kind of "Golf" in the 1.5 to 2.0 t load capacity class. TMHE also had numerous other eye-catchers up its sleeve.

The new Traigo 48's compact design allows it to cope with extremely narrow aisle widths. Lifting heights of up to 7.5 m and speeds of up to 20 km/h are possible. The telescopically adjustable steering column and 200 mm of additional legroom are especially appreciated by those with taller seats.

Quick overview

The instruments are clearly arranged and arranged so that the driver can orientate himself and adjust the controls and seating position within half a minute. In times of labor shortages, this also allows for the rapid deployment of temporary workers.

Toyota MH swears by the low energy consumption and high performance of its Integrated Permanent Magnet (IPM) synchronous motor, which originates from its parent company, Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO). Customers can choose between traditional lead-acid batteries (with a side battery door and open chassis for quick battery replacement) and lithium-ion batteries. A "Traigo_i" was specifically developed for permanently installed lithium-ion operation and features an integrated charging port on the counterweight, allowing for quick and easy interim charging.

It's supposed to consume 17 percent less energy, says Toyota MH Germany's head, Jan Lorenz. We searched somewhat in vain for the iconic shape of the aforementioned "katana sword," a classic samurai sword from centuries past, which, according to the developers' announcement, underscores the " dynamic lines of the frame " and " the striking cabin design " But it's also possible " without " it .

Instead, there's a bit of a "Porsche" feel with narrow headlights on the completely redesigned generation of low-level order pickers in the Optio L series, primarily used in e-commerce and specifically developed for high picking rates and demanding multi-shift systems.

With optimized models for different application scenarios – from ergonomic order picking at an 800 mm working height (OSE120(P), 1.2 t load capacity) to the efficient transport of heavy loads (OSE250(P), 2.5 t load capacity) – there is a suitable solution for almost every application. Energy consumption has been reduced by 14.5 percent, and vibrations on uneven warehouse floors and walkways have been reduced by up to 25 percent thanks to platform damping, explains Product Manager Jörn Wiethaup. Thanks to a 22 percent increase in the platform lifting height to 1195 mm, even the first two shelf levels can be comfortably accessed during the picking process, while the reduced entry height of just 130 mm facilitates frequent loading and unloading. The new trucks are scheduled to be available to order from fall 2025.

Toyota MH offers a manageable automation concept for beginners with its "Swarm Automation Go" program, allowing customers to test automation on a small scale before making larger investments. Customers can also rent individual devices to try them out. This adaptable solution offers flexible rental periods starting at six months for automating pallet transport and stacking. The rental offer is based on the Toyota BT Staxio SAE160 Autopilot automated electric pallet stacker. Designed for point-to-point pallet transport, the driverless transport system is controlled by the T-ONE automation software, which ensures seamless communication and order execution.

Advanced sensor technology provides 360° safety, detects obstacles, and enables emergency stops. Precise movements reduce damage, inventory losses, and operating costs. Later, if desired, there's the option to leave the vehicle at a standstill, so to speak, to take further steps, explains CEO Jan Lorenz. Companies with existing automation processes can also use this to test new material flows.
