Cobalt-free 80-volt series

April 4, 2023

For lithium-ion batteries, the more easily recyclable iron-phosphate version is the better choice. Clark has expanded its GEX20-30L and GEX40-50 electric forklift series to include such 80V models, further developing the emission-free alternative to internal combustion engine forklifts.

Whether in industry, distribution, or the food, beverage, chemical, and pharmaceutical sectors, where clean operation is essential: The GEX20-30sL and GEX40-50 are available with lifting capacities from 2 to 5 tons and are well-suited for transporting heavy loads both indoors and outdoors. These vehicles impress with their powerful acceleration, making them ideal for fast loading and unloading during peak hours and for regularly navigating inclines or ramps. Especially in multi-shift operations, where high availability is crucial, these lithium-ion forklifts demonstrate their strengths through durability, fast and intermediate charging capabilities, and maintenance-free operation.

High power - low wear

Two drive motors operate in a parallel front-wheel drive configuration, each delivering 7.8 kW of power in the GEX20-30L and 11.3 kW in the GEX 40-50, combined with 80 V three-phase AC technology. The AC motors used are considered wear-free and robust, enabling top speeds of up to 18 or 20 km/h, respectively.

The dual AC control system is equipped with modern MOSFET and CAN bus technology. Three individually programmable driving modes are available for energy-efficient operation of the forklift. Regenerative braking with the engine brake and automatic speed reduction when cornering are also individually adjustable. The standard ramp function ensures safe operation on slopes or ramps by preventing unintentional acceleration or rolling backward.

All 80V models in the GEX series have a battery capacity of 560 Ah. The 80V charger requires only a high-voltage connection (CEE 16 A plug) and fully recharges the battery in approximately 3.5 hours. The charger's display continuously shows the current charging status during the charging process. The battery management system includes a safety shut-off.

Approximately 6.25% of the charge can be reached within 15 minutes. Another advantage of Li-ion technology is that the battery maintains a constant voltage throughout operation – even when it is already 80% discharged.

The lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) technology used does not release oxygen during the chemical reaction within the cells. Therefore, there is no risk of spontaneous combustion or battery explosion. Vehicles with LiFePO4 batteries operate efficiently even at very low and high ambient temperatures. Since they do not contain cobalt, LiFePO4 batteries are definitely more environmentally friendly than, for example, NMC batteries (lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxides).

Optional variety

The forklifts can be operated either via adjustable mini-levers integrated into the armrest or via ergonomically positioned hydraulic levers on the hood. Direction changes are achieved via the steering column, the armrest, or a dual pedal system. Power steering ensures that the operator requires minimal steering effort and few steering wheel turns when maneuvering.

Optional equipment includes various cabins such as rain protection (steel roof), weather protection (steel roof and windscreen), partial (steel roof, front and rear windscreen and PVC side panels) and full cabins, mini levers or mechanical levers, blue LED warning lights, orange seat belt, attachments and additional safety options.
