In 2020, Jungheinrich employees donated as part of a "leftover cent campaign . This donation will COVID -19 relief in Tanzania and the training of healthcare workers in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In the Jungheinrich Leftover Cent campaign, employees donate the cents after the decimal point of their paycheck each month to social projects. What may be a small amount for each individual adds up to a substantial sum over the course of the year. The Jungheinrich Board of Management doubles the amount at the end of each year. Participation is voluntary.

Last year, the Restcent donation helped in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Tanzania, one of the world's poorest countries. Most local hospitals still lack adequate protective equipment to protect employees from infection with the virus. Therefore, Jungheinrich has decided to provide further support as part of its Corona emergency aid program: The action medeor branch in Tanzania, in cooperation with its long-standing local partner, the Christian Social Service Commission (CssC), is currently supplying the staff of several hospitals and health centers with urgently needed protective materials such as disinfectants, masks, safety goggles, and gowns, as well as medications and oxygen equipment.

This year, the other part of the donation will go towards a project to improve maternal and child health in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In collaboration with the Association des Femmes pour la Promotion et le Développement Endogenène (AFPDE), action medeor is helping to train health personnel in South Kivu. By training specialists, the fields of maternal and child health and obstetric care can be strengthened in this region. Malaria and malnutrition are among the main causes of illness and death in this region and primarily affect women and children. In addition, the project includes the provision of therapeutic food to malnourished people and training in agricultural methods for local smallholder farmers in order to improve food security in the long term.

"We are very grateful for the long-standing support of our projects," says Sid Peruvemba, spokesperson for the board of action medeor. "It is a living example of how companies engage in social responsibility – both as organizations and as employees, where each and every individual makes a contribution."

Jungheinrich's "Rest Cent" campaign has been running since 2012. A total of around €230,000 has already been donated through this method. The money goes to selected projects that currently require special support. In addition, Jungheinrich has been supporting the "World's Emergency Pharmacy," as the aid organization is also known, for years with various aid projects through donations of goods and money, as well as technical expertise. For example, a pharmaceutical warehouse in Tanzania and Malawi has already been equipped with materials, and the warehouse at the headquarters in Tönisvorst has been expanded.
