Galliker is further expanding its charging capacity for electric trucks. Following the commissioning of an e-power tunnel at the end of June, which supplies 28 truck parking spaces with electricity, a mega charging station from Designwerk in container format was also officially opened as part of an "Innovation Day".
Roadblockers stop amok trucks

Of course, a few meters of braking distance remain. But the OktaBlocks from gate manufacturer Hörmann provide a significant increase in safety for the fan zones during the European Football Championship in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.
Fully electric to Södertälje

The seven batteries of the R 450e electric truck have a charging capacity of 728 kWh, enabling it to travel approximately 300 km without recharging in Nordic cold conditions, despite its 64-ton gross vehicle weight and 24-meter length. It is Scania's first electric long-haul truck with this range. Charging is handled by an ABB system.

The «Kamag Precision Tractor» picks up a semi-trailer from its parking space and the person behind the wheel leans back in a relaxed manner - in the SAFE20 research project, Dachser in Ulm is testing the mixed operation of human-driven vehicles and fully automated vehicles in company yards.
Other electric alternatives
Scania is expanding its range of battery electric trucks (BEVs) with additional electric motors, axle configurations, and cab alternatives, as well as a range of power take-off solutions. This goes far beyond the original level.

Despite declining sales, targeted investments were made
Gebrüder Weiss reported sales of €2.47 billion for 2023 (2022: €3 billion). Geopolitical conflicts and the global economic slowdown had a negative impact. Nevertheless, €187 million was invested in expanding its facilities and services. Many projects were initially postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Non-smokers have an advantage

In the future, when one of these trucks is described as being "full steam ahead", it will refer to a hydrogen-powered truck used for DHL in distribution and scheduled transport, emitting only small puffs of steam from the exhaust pipe instead of exhaust fumes.
Classic cars with hydrogen combustion engines
One of the most versatile commercial vehicles Mercedes-Benz has ever produced is the Unimog. Tests and measurements have now been carried out on a section of highway to see if the vehicle would function reliably in practical use when fueled with liquid hydrogen, at low temperatures, and in challenging topography.
CNG trucks at DB Schenker
Logistics provider DB Schenker (Switzerland) put two new CNG-powered trucks into operation in recent a range of km, are used for pre- and post-haulage as well as city logistics at the Pfungen branch.

Heavy commercial vehicles are making significant progress in the implementation of electromobility. However, there are still alternatives worth considering. New 13-liter biogas engines for bio-LNG and bio-CNG also allow long distances to be covered in a sustainable, CO2 - reduced manner.
Power from the “Mega Charger”

Designwerk Technologies' eTrucks have broken the 1000 kWh barrier. The battery packs are correspondingly enormous. The electric vehicle pioneers are now cutting through the debate surrounding charging infrastructure with a "Mega Charger" housed in a container. The development is promising, and Galliker is the premium customer.

A consultant from Berlin will advise the transport industry, shippers, municipalities, and institutions on the implementation of logistics processes and refueling/charging infrastructure for transalpine freight transport. A corresponding agreement has been concluded with the Prien Logistics Competence Center.
Reclaiming the streets

The six largest German-speaking Swiss cities – Basel, Bern, Lucerne, St. Gallen, Winterthur, and Zurich – presented their third joint report, "City Comparison Mobility," at the beginning of the month. The figures for 2021 were heavily influenced by the effects of the pandemic.
Financing model for eTrucks

Electric trucks aren't cheap. In 2022, only about 4,000 electric trucks were registered in the EU. In August 2023, of the 800,000 trucks on German roads, just 0.5 percent were electric. Now, a joint venture with Scania plans to finance 5,000 electric trucks by 2030 through a leasing model.
eTruck charging park in Sargans
At the beginning of the month, the official opening of the first eTruck charging park in Sargans marked a milestone in the Swiss eMobility roadmap of logistics service provider Käppeli and Scania Switzerland. They are continuing to work on the ongoing development and joint expansion of the network.
