Yesterday, Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) christened a locomotive with a QR code at Zurich's main train station. Scanning the code provides an augmented reality experience, placing the user in the driver's cab. SBB aims to raise awareness of the training program for train drivers, which will soon be available on a part-time basis.
Until Saturday, those interested can experience "the most exciting job prospect in the world" in a locomotive simulator at "Career Worlds Café" in the main train station. Train drivers will also be on hand to provide information about training and the job. In personal conversations with staff, visitors can learn about other railway professions, such as train traffic controller – for which there is also a simulator. Opening hours on Saturday are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The newly designed locomotive is also a gift to the SBB's train drivers, said Linus Looser of the locomotive management team at the christening ceremony: "With this special locomotive, we want to honor the people who keep Switzerland moving every day."
The profession will continue to play a crucial role for the railway in the future. Therefore, the SBB invests heavily in the training and professional development of its train drivers. Between 150 and 200 new train drivers are trained annually to ensure sufficient staffing in the driver's cab.

Many positions are also advertised as part-time. In the future, further training to become a train driver will be possible on an 80 percent workload.
