Combilift promotes new career paths

Shortly before Christmas, Simon Harris honored the forklift manufacturer as Employer of the Year 2020 in the "Large Company" category for apprenticeships . The Irish Minister of Education and Science the company's involvement in new apprenticeship programs.

Combilift is the world's largest manufacturer of multidirectional forklifts and the market leader in long load handling solutions . Since Combilift was founded in 1998, more than 50,000 units have been sold in over 85 countries. Currently, more than 600 people employed locally .

Combilift currently has apprentices in a range of apprenticeship programs including electrical engineering, metal fabrication and The Original Engineering Manufacturing Apprenticeship (OEM).

Not a "Limerick" quip in the humorous sense, but rather a genuine recognition, presented two days before Christmas by Martin O'Brien, CEO of the Limerick Clare Education and Training Board (LMETB) and a member of the Apprenticeship Council . O'Brien admitted he was "very impressed with the Combilifts facility and the environment the apprentices find themselves in. I'm very impressed with the progress made in OEM training."

The Consortium Steering Committee (CSG) in collaboration with the Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB), the LMETB and other vocational training associations noted Combilift CEO Martin Mc Vicar ’s commitment to the development of the new OEM training program.

McVicar commented on the new OEM Engineering Apprenticeship: "The apprenticeship was developed in collaboration with Cavan/Monaghan ETB and the OEM Consortium Group. Receiving this recognition after four years of dedication to this apprenticeship is a tremendous achievement. I would especially like to thank the Combilift apprentices, their mentors, tutors, CMETB, LCETB, SOLAS, and other engineering firms across the country for their support and participation."

The OEM training provides modules such as automation, robotics, mechatronics, and technical drawing, which are relevant to the ever-changing demands of these high-tech manufacturing, installation, and service sectors throughout Ireland. McVicar says increasing the availability of skilled workers nationally, and especially in rural communities, is crucial

Combilift has to support customers in developing solutions directly at the workplace that not only improve productivity and optimize storage, but also facilitate social distancing. This is something that is simultaneously considered within the warehouse design service possible , integrated into the planning stage.
