Zambelli began in 1957 as a two-man operation in the Bavarian Forest and is now an international group of companies with eight locations in four countries. Zambelli now supplies customers throughout Europe. To efficiently manage its product range, the family business is now relying on the expertise of SSI Schäfer and building an automated logistics center in Grafenau.

Available 24/7

The heart of the solution is a high-bay warehouse with silo design, offering maximum storage density in a small footprint with 6,848 pallet spaces. Four energy-efficient SSI Exyz storage and retrieval machines ensure 24/7 availability and direct access to every item – for high throughput and flexibility, even during seasonal peaks.

Another advantage: Since the compact shelving system itself serves as a load-bearing structure for the roof and walls, the construction of an additional hall is unnecessary, significantly reducing installation time. The entrance building will house the receiving, picking, and shipping areas on two levels . Three picking stations will be set up on the upper floor, supplemented by a pallet wrapper and an empty pallet magazine. The connection to the lower floor is via a pallet lift.

Conveyor technology bridge

The pallets then travel to the goods issue area via four buffer conveyors . Additionally, a conveyor bridge and two pallet lifts connect the new warehouse to the existing building, consolidating goods from the new building with long goods in the existing building. The system is controlled by the Wamas logistics software, which is seamlessly integrated into the existing IT environment.

A holistic approach that was crucial for Zambelli when awarding the contract: "For our new warehouse, we didn't want an isolated solution, but rather a flexible, integrated system that optimally supports our business processes," explains Johannes Ranzinger, Managing Director of Zambelli Fertigungs GmbH & Co. KG. "The SSI Schäfer solution combines our diverse requirements under one roof and offers us room for future growth."
