Exyz in the high-bay warehouse

September 24, 2025

Zambelli, a provider of solutions for building envelopes, shelving, industrial metalworking, and  heating technology, is also among the leading manufacturers of roof drainage systems. Their product range alone comprises 17,500 items. At the new logistics center in Grafenau, this was a clear case for SSI Schäfer.

Zambelli began in 1957 as a two-man operation in the Bavarian Forest and is now an international group of companies with eight locations in four countries. Zambelli currently supplies customers throughout  Europe. To manage its product range efficiently, the family-owned company is now relying on the expertise of SSI Schäfer and is building an automated logistics center in Grafenau.

Available 24/7

At the heart of the solution is a high-bay warehouse in silo construction,  offering maximum storage density in a small footprint with 6,848 pallet spaces. Four energy-efficient SSI Exyz storage and retrieval machines ensure 24/7 availability and direct access to every item – for high throughput and flexibility even during seasonal peaks.

Another advantage: Since the compact racking system itself serves as the load-bearing structure for the roof and walls, the construction of an additional hall is unnecessary – significantly reducing installation time. The annex will house the receiving, order picking, and shipping areas on two levels  . The upper floor will contain three picking stations, supplemented by a connects to the lower level A pallet lift

Conveyor bridge

The pallets then travel via four buffer lanes to the shipping area. Additionally, a conveyor bridge and two pallet lifts connect the new warehouse to the existing building, consolidating goods from the new building with long goods already in the existing structure. The system is controlled by the Wamas logistics software, whichis seamlessly integrated into the existing IT environment.

A holistic approach was crucial for Zambelli when awarding the contract: “For our new warehouse, we didn’t want a standalone solution, but rather a flexible, integrated system that optimally supports our business processes,” explains Johannes  Ranzinger, Managing Director of Zambelli Fertigungs GmbH & Co. KG. “The solution from SSI Schäfer combines our diverse requirements under one roof and offers us room for future growth.”
