According to Suva, more than 800 people are injured at work every day. No job is so important that one the lives of colleaguesshould. If an essential rule is violated, the process must be stopped immediately and the hazard eliminated. Only then canwork.
Among the nine basic rules is the requirement to operate a forklift only after appropriate instruction and with official authorization, i.e., a forklift operator's license. It almost goes without saying that the vehicle must be handled correctly – and no stunts should be performed to impress colleagues. Considerate – and therefore, despite adhering to work objectives, also defensive – driving is mandatory. Saferoutes and paths should be given priority.

The load must be secured and safely placed in the designated storage area. The forklift must always be checked for proper functioning before use. Proper handling should not be replaced by improvisation. The value of personal work clothing and protective equipment is an essential part of the job.
