Electric vehicle focus in Italy

May 31, 2024

DHL Electromobility Italy

DHL is opening its first “Center of Excellence” for electromobility in Europe in Pozzuolo Martesana, Italy (near Milan), to support electrification for the entire supply chain from component procurement to vehicle provision and logistics.

The center, with its associated 10,000 square meters of warehouse space, is operated by DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Express. It is the sixth hub in an existing global network designed to provide worldwide access to both local and international customers. According to DHL, the center offers DHL Global Forwarding's combined warehousing and freight management services, including sea and air freight, complemented by DHL Express's network solutions for global distribution.

The center in Italy encompasses inbound and outbound logistics using various modes of transport, warehousing including additional services such as battery testing and charging, and comprehensive aftermarket management for batteries. This includes dealer service for warranty claims, battery removal, and exchange. In addition to these key advantages, customers benefit from seamless integration into a pan-European network designed for lithium batteries. Besides a modern warehouse, the site offers extensive energy storage capacity and specialized services tailored to two-wheelers. Furthermore, the Center of Excellence for Electromobility features temperature- and humidity-controlled rooms, providing a comprehensive solution that includes facilities for both standard and hazardous materials. For air freight, customers can rely on teams certified according to IATA CEIV standards. They also have access to the expertise of the Formula E logistics team, headquartered in Italy.

The facility already serves a wide range of customers, including established original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and automotive manufacturers from Italy, various European countries, the United States, and China.

“Here, specialist teams offer pioneering solutions for the entire supply chain – from component procurement to vehicle delivery,” affirms Fathi Tlatli, President Global Auto-Mobility Sector of DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation.
