June 28, 2024

After the city and canton of Zurich recently distanced themselves from Cargo sous Terrain, further negative news was to be expected. The board of directors of Cargo sous terrain (CST) now intends to subject the existing plans to a more thorough review. The outlook is not good.

Following initial headlines circulating on this matter, the board of directors is still hesitant to disclose all details. What is certain is that Chairman and CEO Peter Sutterlüti is stepping down and handing over the management to Stefan Schraner until further notice.

The Board of Directors of CST AG has announced that it will review all parameters of the project and has decided on a corresponding package of measures.

Among other things, logistics and market requirements, route planning, hub locations, as well as financing and technology are being included in the project review in dialogue with key stakeholders. Approximately 100 million Swiss francs had been budgeted so far.

In particular, the partly critical statements from the canton and the city of Zurich necessitated a targeted further development of the current planning status and the dialogue with the political authorities.

Based on the results of the project review, CST will make the necessary adjustments, including to the timeline. This continuous development is standard practice when implementing new technologies.

Stefan Schraner has been responsible for the business plan and project controlling. The CEO position is expected to be filled in the second half of the year.
