DHL is also prepared for alternatives

In anticipation of the expected surge in deliveries during the Christmas holidays, DHL is also keeping its options open. This could include an early extension of its contract as the global logistics partner for the German Bobsleigh and Luge Federation (BSD), which is intended to extend beyond the 2026 Olympic Games.

DHL is continuing its successful partnership with the German Bobsleigh and Luge Federation (BSD) – even beyond the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. The company has extended its contract with the federation as its global logistics partner ahead of schedule until the end of the 2026/2027 season. This means the iconic yellow bobsleighs will continue to be a common sight on the ice tracks. Thanks to extensive trademark rights, the company's yellow color will also remain a distinguishing feature on other sports equipment and the German team's sportswear. In addition to bobsleigh, the partnership also encompasses the disciplines of luge and skeleton.

“The athletes of the German Bobsleigh, Luge, and Skeleton Federation (BSD) have not only been a guarantee of success for many years, but also a source of great public support,” says Arjan Sissing, Head of Brand Marketing – DHL Group. “They give their all in every race. Their passion, their speed, and their team spirit perfectly align with our performance promise. We are proud to further expand this partnership.”

Santa Klaus declined to comment to the press yesterday on possible new alternative routes for delivering the seasonally increased volume of goods – from "straight through the chimney" to digitized reindeer teams. Especially since the issue could become even more critical due to climate change.

The partnership with the German Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton Federation (BSD) has been in place since the 2014/2015 winter season. It covers the logistics for all the athletes' equipment. For example, for the Luge World Championships in Whistler, Canada, and the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships in Lake Placid, USA, DHL transports approximately 40 crates of sports equipment for the BSD. Each crate weighs up to one ton.

DHL also collaborates with the International Luge Federation (FIL) and the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF). This results in shipments for other national federations as well. The various deliveries can often be consolidated, creating synergies.
