What do you do when a shipment doesn't fill an entire container but still needs to be dispatched by sea as quickly as possible? With a new Container Freight Station (CFS) near Rotterdam, Dachser has established a central transshipment point for LCL (Less than Container Load) export shipments.
The logistics provider consolidates its customers' less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments from the Netherlands, Belgium, large parts of France and Germany, Switzerland, and parts of Austria and Eastern Europe at its own contract logistics warehouse in Waddinxveen, and then ships them consolidated via sea freight through the Port of Rotterdam. Rotterdam acts as the export gateway in Dachser's sea freight network. By conducting the consolidation processes at its own facility in Waddinxveen, the logistics provider maintains process control and flexibility in this crucial part of the supply chain and is independent of third parties. This allows Dachser to provide a high-quality logistics service to its customers. "With this concept, we leverage the strength of our European LTL network to offer reliable logistics solutions from Europe to the world," says Tobias Burger, COO Air & Sea Logistics at Dachser.

As one of the world's largest seaports, the Port of Rotterdam is closely connected to all major international trade centers, offering regular services to Asia, North and South America, and attractive vessel transit times. At the same time, it is linked to Dachser's European land transport network via the local Dachser branch in Waddinxveen, with frequent services. This expanded catchment area leads to better and more efficient container utilization. "The close integration of the Waddinxveen location with our comprehensive European LCL network allows us to centrally manage LCL consolidation there. We then ship the consolidated LCL shipments to destinations worldwide via the Port of Rotterdam with its high-frequency services," says Christian Kruse, Head of Global Ocean Freight LCL. "With the Port of Rotterdam as an export gateway, we can offer customers reliable and flexible logistics solutions on a global scale, prioritizing flexibility, speed, quality, and predictability."
Door-to-door service
Customers benefit from a standardized and reliable shipment handling process that meets Dachser's high quality standards in European less-than-container-load (LCL) and contract logistics. "The Container Freight Station in Rotterdam is a strategic location for us for export LCL sea freight shipments from Europe to international markets," says Dr. Tobias Burger, COO Air & Sea Logistics at Dachser. "With this concept, we leverage the strength of our European LCL network to offer reliable logistics solutions from Europe to the world."
