June 12, 2025

Slightly less imposing, not designed by Herzog & de Meuron and without stadium lighting. But thesecond Galaxus warehouse in Neuenburg am Rhein, in southern Baden, is twice the size of Munich's Allianz Arena, with more than 60,000 square meters. The tranquil town of Neuenburg am Rhein (population around 13,000) will celebrate its 850th anniversary in 2025. And indeed, a new era is beginning for the town that year. The online retailer, expanding from Switzerland to Germany, will soon open the first of two logistics centers and, in the medium term, will become the town's largest employer. Around 1,000 skilled workers will be needed in e-commerce, logistics, technology, human resources, facility management, and other areas.

Galaxus will operate two warehouses with a total storage area of 90,000 square meters and office space in Neuenburg. The topping-out ceremony for the larger of the two warehouses (60,000 square meters) was celebrated on June 5th. Construction company Köster invited all local tradespeople involved in the construction to a reception with sausages, drinks, and a party, as well as neighbors, politicians, media representatives, and, thankfully, the tenant Galaxus. Neuenburg's mayor, Jens Fondy-Langela, also addressed the guests and reaffirmed the city's support. He stated that Neuenburg is up-and-coming, vibrant, and eager to seize the opportunities of the European market.

Construction is proceeding as planned

Galaxus, a purely European online retailer with locations in Switzerland, Germany, and Serbia, fits perfectly into this picture. Galaxus COO Michael Stolle emphasized this to the assembled guests and encouraged them to visit the website. "Galaxus is an exciting, future-proof, and European employer," said Stolle. Recruitment for Neuchâtel is in full swing, and the first employment contracts have already been signed. The first of the two warehouses will go into operation in October 2025. Both warehouses are practically within sight of each other in the southern industrial area of Neuchâtel, separated by only a few meters of walking distance. Job postings for Neuchâtel can be here . Galaxus aims to hire its first 50 employees in Neuchâtel by the end of this year. The number is expected to increase gradually until around 2030. The company is seeking logistics specialists, site coordinators, project managers, team leads for logistics, security and loss prevention specialists, facility managers, HR generalists, and system administrators.

Michael Stolle thanked the partner companies, tradespeople, neighbors, and authorities: "So far, everything has progressed according to plan, and construction is proceeding as scheduled." He also emphasized the importance of sustainability for Galaxus. The second hall will be equipped with a 10-megawatt solar power system. This photovoltaic system will produce approximately 70 percent of the energy that the city of Neuchâtel draws from the public grid. A gigantic reversible heat pump is also planned to heat the hall year-round and cool it in the summer. It will be powered entirely by renewable electricity. Speaking of gigantic: Munich's Allianz Arena could fit inside the hall twice. A complete circuit of the hall covers 1.4 kilometers.

Galaxus will begin operations at its first warehouse in Neuenburg this autumn. The second warehouse is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, allowing Galaxus to install the technical equipment in 2026 or 2027, with the aim of commencing operations there by 2027 at the latest.
