Significantly below last year's level

August 21, 2025

Swiss Post achieved a profit of CHF 123 million (previous year: CHF 220 million) in the first half of 2025, with revenues of CHF 2.088 billion in its logistics business (previous year: CHF 2.172 billion). Across all business areas, the 35,478 employees generated revenues of CHF 3.6 billion. Structural changes, it was stated today at the presentation of the figures in Bern, are unavoidable.

The slogan "We act today so that we can continue to offer Switzerland added value in the future" might suggest something worse. Swiss Post presented its operating profit (EBIT) for the first half of 2025 today in Bern. While in line with expectations, it was significantly below the previous year's level. The main reasons: the continued decline in letter volume, newspapers, and counter transactions, as well as rising costs.

Demanding environment

Despite the challenging environment, Swiss Post remains financially sound but must also adapt to new market conditions: it is further developing its services while implementing efficiency measures. Swiss Post recently announced that, for example, it will discontinue its general cargo logistics business in Germany at Swiss Post Cargo (Germany), headquartered in Villingen-Schwenningen, as of September 30, 2025. The company will focus its strategic efforts going forward on warehousing logistics and the transport of full and less-than-truckload (FTL) and less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments.

137 employees, primarily at the Aldingen logistics center, are affected by the job cuts there. "Continuing the general cargo business in Germany would result in losses in the medium and long term. From a business perspective, it is therefore irresponsible to continue these activities. We know the impact our decision has on the employees. It is not an easy decision for us," explained Merlin A. Müller, Managing Director of Swiss Post Cargo Germany, in June.
