More parking spaces for polar bears

April 7, 2022

In the third high-bay warehouse that Kardex is building for the ice cream company of the same name, two MSingle B-1250/31 ZT storage and retrieval machines ensure 56 work cycles per hour. The 32-meter-high warehouse offers two temperature zones across twelve racking levels and has 4,700 storage locations with double-deep storage.

Eisbär Eis, a company specializing in ice cream products for retailers, has commissioned Kardex Mlog to construct a new high-bay warehouse and connect it to its new production facility in Apensen via conveyor technology. The project also includes the refurbishment of existing conveyor systems and the complete renewal of the visualization software. This contract represents a continuation of a long-standing partnership. Kardex Mlog also built the two existing high-bay warehouses for frozen products in Apensen, with a total of 12,500 pallet spaces, in 2009 and 2011. Assembly work is scheduled to begin in the fall and will be carried out partly while the facility remains operational. The warehouse is slated to be operational by May 2023.

The new two-aisle high-bay warehouse serves to store raw materials, supplies, and consumables (RHB) and will be integrated into the existing overall logistics concept. Two Kardex MSingle B-1250/31 ZT storage and retrieval machines (SRMs) ensure 56 storage or retrieval operations per hour. The 32-meter-high warehouse offers two temperature zones across twelve racking levels and provides approximately 4,700 storage locations with double-deep storage. Supply to the various production areas will be handled by conveyor systems, which are also being planned and built by Kardex Mlog.

Kardex Mlog designed the high-bay warehouse and the extensive conveyor technology with 140 drives, 3 vertical transfer units and a transfer carriage in close cooperation with Prof. Dr. Günter Truszkiewitz from the planning office ProLoCon, who was responsible for the tender.

Eisbär Eis is an owner-managed family business whose history dates back to 1955. This specialist in private label ice cream production has its own development department and offers a broad product portfolio that can supply its retail partners with virtually everything they need. Eisbär Eis employs around 500 people who produce approximately 60 million liters of ice cream annually, generating a turnover of €130 million.
