Buffering at the intermediate level

Dematic has installed an automated buffer and sequencing system for the Norwegian logistics service provider for alcoholic beverages, Vectura AS. Thanks to a mezzanine level, the system is able to process up to 150 pallets per hour and sequence up to 460 pallets simultaneously.

The new system represents an upgrade to Vectura AS's automated pallet warehouse in Gjelleråsen, near Oslo. With a 52 percent share of the Norwegian market, Vectura delivers a total of 50 million pallets annually to wholesalers, the hotel and restaurant industry, and state-owned Vinmonopolet stores. Vinmonopolet holds the national monopoly in Norway for the sale of beverages with an alcohol content exceeding 4.75 per mille. The dynamic pallet shipping buffer integrated into the Dematic system enables Vectura to achieve a higher degree of automation in order preparation and processing.

The automated buffering and sequencing system was installed on a mezzanine structure spanning approximately 700 square meters. It extends over two levels to optimize the use of available space. On one level, the pallets are prepared and buffered; they are then transferred to the shipping area on the other level using an elevator and transfer carts. This enables the system to process up to 150 pallets per hour and simultaneously sequence up to 460 pallets.

Finn Biller, Sales Manager at Dematic, emphasizes: “The pandemic presented numerous challenges in completing the project as planned. Nevertheless, we succeeded in implementing the new system.” IT and Business Development Manager Håvard Berg confirms: “We experienced absolutely no downtime in our operations during the entire installation phase.”
