Sparck, a packaging specialist from the Netherlands, will present at LogiMAT (March 19-21) the automatic infeed system with a feeding function that can be integrated into the already largely optimized operation of packaging machines.
The process currently works like this: A warehouse employee places the goods to be packaged on the conveyor belt, and a 3D scanner measures the products precisely. Based on this information, a cardboard box is automatically cut, folded, closed, glued, and labeled. This reduces the package volume by up to 50 percent and cardboard consumption by 30 percent. Furthermore, empty spaces no longer need to be filled. But that's not all. Now comes the new feature designed to further optimize the operation of the packaging machines.
Since the packaging systems used so far already have two input stations, the second port can be used in parallel for the manual input of multi-item orders. This enables previously unattainable throughputs. The innovation not only automates the feeding process but also perfectly aligns the items, allowing a system like the Everest CVP machine to achieve a maximum speed of more than 1,100 packages per hour.
The new function is compatible via interface options with automated guided vehicles (AGVs), sorting systems, conveyor belts, container turners, cobots, robots, and manual operation. It closes the gap between order picking and packing, enabling secure and compact order processing without manual intervention.
“Given the complexity of this task, creating a smooth, seamless process without human intervention wasn’t easy,” says Claus Weigel, International Senior Sales Manager at Sparck Technologies. “But now we’ve succeeded in developing an innovative technology that fully automates the interface between order picking and precise packaging.” According to the developers, this is a milestone in intralogistics.
The company, with more than 300 employees, is headquartered in Drachten, Netherlands. It has branches in the USA, Germany, France, and the UK. Since August 2021, Sparck Technologies has been part of Standard Investment, based in Amsterdam. Standard Investment owns 18 companies with 4,300 employees and generates annual revenue of more than one billion euros.
