Own conveyor system on board

May 26, 2024

 Bito flowcarrier1

Bito is launching a new "LEO flow" with a new onboard belt conveyor and a "LEO carrier" with a fixed racking system in the "driverless" segment. Thanks to the belt conveyor, the "flow" version is suitable for transporting both containers and trays as well as loose goods.

LEO Transporters connect workstations and can support a wide variety of processes as feeders in warehouse and order picking areas, as assembly line replacements, or as buffer storage. All LEO Transporters share the common feature of still requiring a visual guide track on the floor of the warehouse or production hall to direct the transporter. Stops, loading points, and route instructions are indicated by markers also attached to the floor. With this simple setup, the basic installation is complete. The system can now also bridge heavily trafficked passageways, where the guide track could be damaged by extreme wear and tear over time, without the need for a guide track.

With the "LEO flow," three reflective light barriers detect the goods on the belt and center them before travel, preventing them from falling. The system is designed for transport loads of up to 35 kg. The LEO flow operates without a transfer station; the transporter can drive directly up to the machine or conveyor system. The belt conveyor, equipped with driven rollers, ensures that goods can be picked up and unloaded laterally to the direction of travel. Communication between the LEO flow and the conveyor system is handled by a Smart Box. This box connects to the existing conveyor system and communicates wirelessly with the LEO flow transporter. This makes the interface solution exceptionally simple.

In the version with automatic height adjustment, the infeed and outfeed height is automatically adjusted as needed during operation. The height adjustability is dynamic, ranging from a minimum of 500 mm to a maximum of 1150 mm. A version with automated lifting enables the automatic infeed and outfeed of goods to the appropriate conveyor height during operation.

Height adjustment is achieved via a scissor lift system, which is always lowered to a minimum height of 500 mm during operation. For loading and unloading, the load is raised to the height of the conveyor system, up to its maximum height. A bellows around the scissor lift system ensures safety.

Bito-FTS CEO Dennis Ramers: “With our driverless transport system variants, we make it easier for users to get started with the automation of material flow processes, as there are no high investment costs or expenses for lengthy software projects. (…) With our continuous optimizations and further developments, we adapt to the dynamic market conditions in logistics, the rapidly growing e-commerce sector, and the production sector.” He added that the system is also a valuable alternative in times of skilled labor shortages.
