The assistance solutions aren't entirely new. But Hyster has bundled them into a package called "Reaction," which – although it includes everything – certainly doesn't deserve the attribute "hysterical": proximity sensors, real-time tracking, hydraulic adjustment, and dynamic driver warnings are all included.
The solution adapts the forklift's performance data to its condition, location, and operating conditions. "The project was developed in collaboration with one of the world's largest logistics and technology companies. More than 29,000 hours were invested in research and development," says Product Manager Daniel Heap. "Reducing forklift accidents, safety violations, and downtime is considered a priority for intensive indoor forklift applications. With 'Hyster Reaction,' we are now directly addressing this issue.".

Depending on the operating location, device-specific limits, or the proximity of obstacles or pedestrians, a range of performance controls proactively adjust the forklift's features: Local and real-time positioning technologies detect vehicles, pedestrians, and guideposts via tags. Object detection using lidar technology also identifies obstacles in the travel path that are not linked to proximity transponders.
The hydraulic function control system continuously collects data and adjusts the power output according to driving speed and acceleration. This input also determines hydraulic functions such as lifting, lowering, and tilting. This improves load stability and reduces the risk of tipping or slipping. The control system includes overload protection, preventing operators from moving loads that exceed the specified weight limits.
If the system detects a pedestrian or an obstacle on the road, a location-specific speed limit, or another situation, it reduces power and issues visual and audible warnings. This gives the driver additional reaction time.
However, «Hyster Reaction» is only available for selected Hyster forklift and warehouse equipment models.
