SSI Schäfer has modernized the Medical Device Distribution Center for DKSH, a renowned pharmaceutical company in Bangkok. The upgrade of the facility has resulted in an average throughput improvement of more than 13%.
The pharmaceutical industry is characterized above all by high-quality, temperature-sensitive products and delicate packaging. Everything is subject to strict regulations regarding serial and batch numbers as well as expiration dates. The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sets stringent requirements for pharmaceutical distributors and demands strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. At the heart of these regulations is the requirement of traceability, which necessitates meticulous monitoring of every Stock Keeping Unit (SKU). This meticulous monitoring ensures the rapid identification of compromised or expired products at any critical point within the distribution center.
SSI Schäfer provided the answer to these challenges with a compact solution based on the "Logimat" storage lift system. Combined with a putwall system – a shelving system for partitioning and retrieving picked items in the form of a partition wall – the entire solution is housed on a compact footprint of 70 m². The logistical processes, from storage and order picking to packaging for delivery, are systematically implemented with intelligent software that offers real-time transparency.

The 10-meter-high storage lift offers an impressive storage capacity for over 10,500 items on a compact footprint of 30 square meters and operates on a goods-to-person principle. The system can be extended vertically to a height of up to 24 meters, or horizontally by integrating additional storage lifts. This scalable solution allows DKSH Thailand to expand its storage capacity at any time.
The strategically positioned partition wall system minimizes distances between storage and packing stations and optimizes order processing. Each storage space within the partition wall system represents an individual customer order, with indicator lights guiding the order pickers and ensuring accurate order consolidation.
