TGW with its own WERX software

July 15, 2025

TGW uses the intelligent software platform WERX as a central element and adds artificial intelligence on top to minimize manual intervention. Integrated systems also enable the seamless combination of full-case and split-case picking.

For the efficient handling of large volumes of goods – especially in the full-case sector – high-performance solutions are essential. An intelligent software platform – if available – plays a central role, particularly in palletizing.

With over 25 years of specialization in the food industry, TGW sees itself as one of the leading providers in Europe. In the area of deep-freeze systems, the intralogistics specialists offer a comprehensive full-case portfolio. "We are in constant contact with our customers. This intensive exchange and the resulting ideas help us stay ahead of the curve,"says Michael Schedlbauer, Vice President Business Development Grocery at TGW Logistics. The full-case solutions cover all temperature zones – from dry goods to fresh produce and deep-freeze (-30°C) – and enable the automated handling of pallets, roll containers, and thermal containers.

Developed in-house

TGW Logistics prioritizes in-house developed technologies in all core areas: High-performance palletizers process over 700 packaging units per hour, offering modular design, high redundancy, and optimal maintenance accessibility. Depalletizing systems are available with varying degrees of automation for different container types. Highly dynamic shuttle warehouses with trays handle multiple SKUs in a single operation, enabling high storage density while allowing for flexible order picking.

Precise sequencing directly from the warehouse or via conveyor technology ensures targeted provision for palletizing or further processes. The modular WERX software platform facilitates efficient implementation.

The WERX software platform is an essential element of every TGW system. With a team of over 700 specialists, TGW Logistics develops modular software solutions for controlling, optimizing, and visualizing all material flows. Particular attention is paid to the palletizing software, which uses intelligent algorithms to ensure maximum packing density and optimal container stability.

TGW Logistics relies on a camera-based, adaptive system for depalletizing: Using AI algorithms, the system recognizes patterns and analyzes error images directly in the visualization. This results in a continuous learning process that, according to the manufacturer, reduces the number of necessary operator interventions by up to 30 percent – with direct effects on the overall performance of the system.

In palletizing, an intelligent multi-layer approach is used in the upstream packing plan creation. This allows multiple requirements to be considered simultaneously and activated or deactivated as needed. Based on current capacity utilization, the system recognizes when optimization is required. In practice, this feature has already proven successful at a leading food service provider in the USA: Delivery delays to end customers have been significantly reduced.
