High-speed doors enable fast passage and reduce heating losses. However, incidents often occur, including with industrial trucks, when the door is not fully open. Linde MH now offers intelligent door control.

The Safety Guard's "Door Control" module allows industrial trucks and infrastructure to communicate with each other, thus avoiding high costs due to collision damage.

Most often, it's limited to property damage, but even that can add up to significant sums if roller shutters and forklifts need to be repaired or transported goods are damaged. "A single accident can quickly result in costs in the five-figure euro range," says Fabian Zimmermann, Product Manager for Safety Solutions. "Drivers are often under pressure to meet deadlines or are simply distracted by their thoughts."

Like the Linde Safety Guard assistance system, the new "Door Control" function is based on ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. The forklift communicates with the building infrastructure via high-frequency radio waves: When a forklift approaches a roller door, its speed is gradually reduced, and the door opens automatically. The intelligent system determines the distance between the permanently installed units on the forklift and the high-speed door to within 10 cm. After passing through, the door closes again, and the forklift driver can continue driving at normal speed.

To prevent the door from being triggered by passing forklifts or neighboring doors from opening, the size and shape of the zones (spherical or rectangular) can be customized to the user. Another advantage: The doors are only open for as long as necessary.
