Even "heavy seas" are no problem

February 21, 2024

Packaging specialist Mosca, recently awarded the title of Germany's best machine manufacturer, is not only present at LogiMAT (March 19-21), but is also prepared for "rough seas" when needed, as demonstrated at the "Seafood Expo" in Barcelona. Because even fish needs to be packaged properly.

In rough seas and high winds, the strapping of fish crates must be designed for reliable operation in harsh environments. For the fish industry, solutions like the SoniXs MS-6-VA and SoniXs MP-6 R-VA are offered, combined with Movitec winders for securing the cargo. These are designed – specifically for this application – to be temperature-resistant and feature a corrosion-resistant stainless steel surface as well as the SoniXs ultrasonic unit for sealing the strapping bands. "The strapping works even with a wet machine body and strapping material," says Christian Grosskopf, Sales Manager Food & Beverage at Mosca. "Since the ships are often at sea in hard-to-reach areas with extreme weather conditions like Alaska, the machines must be as robust as possible, and maintenance in an emergency must be as simple as possible."

At the «Seafood» trade fair, Mosca is also presenting combination options to protect strapped, stacked fish crates from slipping on the pallet and from the effects of wind, weather and dust.

Specifically designed for salmon farming is the SoniXs MS-6-VA: Here, large quantities of uniformly sized polystyrene crates filled with fish need to be strapped quickly and efficiently. The machine has two separate spools for the strapping band. When the first spool is empty, the machine automatically switches to the second, full spool. For fishing vessels on the high seas and confined spaces, the SoniXs MP-6 R-VA can be easily adjusted to handle crates of varying sizes and widths. Further development steps for the digitalization of the machine control are also planned.

How processes at the end of a production line can be digitally and increasingly networked will be integrate seamlessly into demonstrated – away from the "high seas" and on dry land – at the upcoming LogiMAT trade fair in Hall 4. As a system provider, Mosca will be showcasing (complete) solutions that higher -level systems. A SoniXs TR-Connect via a LAN interface on the machine using a tablet attached to the machine operable . Users can view important parameters such as performance, current strapping settings, and availability, and flexibly adjust them to their requirements. The data generated by the machine can also be used to predict maintenance intervals.
