SSI Schäfer announces the successful installation of the largest mobile racking system for deep-freeze warehouses in the United Arab Emirates – a follow-up project after the provision of critical vaccine infrastructure during the Covid-19 pandemic. The system increases storage capacity there by 90%.
The choice fell on an ESX mobile racking system for dry cold storage with an area of over 8,000 square meters and 14,000 pallet positions. Equipped with deep-freeze solutions and advanced digital dashboards for precise environmental control, the system enables the storage of vaccines and pharmaceuticals within a defined temperature range down to -25°C.
For SSI Schäfer, this marks the successful conclusion of its partnership with Noatum Logistics Middle East, a company of the Abu Dhabi Ports Group. The installation of the mobile racking system has created the largest mobile deep-freeze racking system in the United Arab Emirates, which is part of the AD Ports Group's KLP21 Warehouse Hub in the Khalifa Economic Zone Abu Dhabi (KEZAD).
Not only have cooling efficiency and storage density been increased, but warehouse safety has also been further optimized. The system features multiple fail-safe mechanisms and a state-of-the-art programmable logic controller (PLC) that allows for individual and automated control. Given the rising demand for standardized, state-of-the-art cold storage facilities, this partnership meets the needs of many customers and simultaneously accelerates business growth in the region.
Logistics for the AD Ports Group
Noatum Managing Director Daniel Berasategui: “Our partnership with SSI Schäfer is important for the development of our expertise as a regional logistics center serving a wide range of industries – from healthcare to FMCG.”.
The successful collaboration between AD Ports Group and SSI Schäfer has been ongoing for several years. It was initially established to accelerate the company's development into the largest cold storage distribution center for healthcare and medical supply chains. SSI Schäfer developed and installed a VNA (Very Narrow Aisle Pallet Racking) storage solution to optimize the group's state-of-the-art deep-freeze storage capacity. This solution played a crucial role in the storage and distribution of more than 260 million vaccine doses to over 65 countries worldwide as part of the HOPE consortium, an Abu Dhabi-led public-private partnership to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The logistics division of AD Ports Group approached SSI Schäfer to optimize its cold storage areas and capacities for pharmaceutical distribution.
