Automotive and aerospace supplier CGR is currently constructing a new logistics hall covering 620 square meters, for which the groundbreaking ceremony took place in June 2025. The centerpiece will be an intralogistics solution from SSI Schäfer: a pallet racking system with 750 storage locations and a heavy-duty mobile racking system with an additional 360 storage locations.

CGR International's core business is the cold forming of metals and component manufacturing – from the production of springs to mechanical and mechatronic components. The internationally operating company has 24 production facilities in eleven countries across four continents.
Part of the French CGR Group
For 170 years, the Burberg-Eicker company has stood for technical precision and high-quality products. Today, the traditional company, founded in 1855, operates under the name CGR BE GmbH, having been acquired by the French CGR Group in 2013.

the In recent years, developed, particularly at its Mettmann site, into a manufacturer of complex mechatronic components found in almost all vehicles worldwide. Especially in the last five years, the company has invested millions in new technologies in Mettmann and is supporting the automotive industry, for example, in the transformation from combustion engines to electric vehicles.
Efficiently managing processes
The expansion of warehouse capacity is driven by growing logistical demands. Products from the new hall are scheduled to be shipped worldwide starting in early 2026. The new logistics hall, featuring green roofs and a photovoltaic system, is intended not only to be functional but also a model for sustainable construction.

SSI Schäfer is handling the implementation of the storage solution, which consists of a static pallet rack and a mobile racking system. The goal is to achieve the most compact storage possible with direct access to each pallet. The transport routes have been planned to efficiently support the processes.
Solution-oriented thinking
Given the global challenges facing the automotive industry, flexibility is a key factor. Therefore, the solution is specifically designed for durability and scalability to meet demand. To mitigate personnel shortages and ensure competitiveness, streamlined and rapid order picking processes are crucial – and these are optimally supported by the new solution .

In September 2024, CGR BE first approached SSI Schäfer; the contract was awarded in late summer 2025. "The collaboration with SSI Schäfer was very open and based on trust from the outset," says Edyta Köhler, Head of Supply Chain at CGR BE. "Especially with the many detailed adjustments and technical questions, it was helpful to have a partner who not only thinks proactively but also reacts quickly and with a focus on solutions."
Coordinated with the architects
Furthermore, the new logistics hall had to be adapted to the existing building structure: "The new hall is being built between two existing buildings and had to be precisely integrated into the existing structure," explains plant manager Stefan Schmidt. "This is where SSI Schäfer's experience in planning and implementing complex racking systems, as well as in coordinating with architects, proved invaluable."
