A new lithium-ion battery developed and manufactured by Thermo King enables constant cooling, fuel savings, and uninterrupted temperature control during electric vehicle in inner -city areas.

Thermoking has developed battery pack specifically designed for its all-electric E-200 refrigeration units . The lithium-ion battery is available in 1.8 kWh and 3.6 kWh versions. Combined with the E-200 units, the battery pack provides a zero-emission solution for temperature -controlled transport, even when the driver stops for deliveries, takes a break, or needs to park the vehicle for a period of time.

Product Manager Eneko Fernandez: "The trend toward electrification will continue, with machines being further optimized to power the compressor not with a diesel engine, but with a battery system. We want to push the boundaries of what's possible in our industry and have developed our own lithium-ion battery pack, which is fully integrated into the machine's system, so users fully the benefits of sustainable energy management ."

The battery pack was developed for mid-sized delivery vans and trucks. Unlike typical light truck solutions for diesel combustion engines, the E-200 refrigeration units deliver constant power in up to two cooling zones, independent of the vehicle engines, and work with both electric and conventional vehicles. This environmentally sustainable method of powering the unit during delivery or break-related stops is particularly important for home deliveries and other urban transport operations involving frequent deliveries and door openings, short travel distances, and repeated stops in traffic. This allows fleet managers to be confident that cargo is consistently cooled and that temperature fluctuations are avoided. The solution is also compatible with the vehicle's start/stop functions, which provide additional fuel savings.

The system can be via a single control system and is integrated into the telematics system. The charging plug and charger are designed for quick and clean installation on the driver's side . Installation takes place under the passenger seat in most vehicle models. In standby mode, cooling and charging of the battery occur simultaneously.
