Maintenance in Austria

April 10, 2026

With a new workshop in Obersiebenbrunn near Vienna, rail manufacturer Stadler is expanding its capacity for the commissioning, approval, and servicing of modern rail vehicles in Austria. The workshop has been used to maintain Westbahn's high-speed trains since March 2026.

“Austria is an important market for us. That’s why we are strategically expanding our presence. The new servicecenter is a key piece of the puzzle. With the new workshop, we are creating the conditions to efficiently maintain the trains. This is crucial for stable and reliable train operation,” said Chairman of the Board Peter Spuhler.

High technical standard

The new Stadler hall is far more than just a workshop – it's a "hall for everyone" and will be available to all operators for servicing Stadler vehicles in the future. The facility makes it possible to optimize and standardize preparations for a wide variety of test runs. This is crucial for trains to be put into service even faster.

“This lays the foundation for efficient, sustainable, and state-of-the-art train maintenance,” explains Christian Diewald, CEO of Stadler Austria. The project was realized in cooperation with Strabag. “With the new maintenance hall, we and Stadler have made a significant contribution to a modern and reliable rail infrastructure in Austria, completed in just seven months,” says Franz Redl, member of the Strabag board.

They significantly strengthen the rail system because modern vehicles can be maintained more quickly and efficiently. (...) "Such infrastructure projects increase the quality of public transport and make Austria a more attractive business and mobility location in the long term.".

The new hall was built as an extension of the existing connecting railway at the Agrana company premises in Obersiebenbrunn / Leopoldsdorf and includes a 225 m long and approximately 4600 m² hall as well as office space and an additional tent hall, which is used as storage.

Additional capacities

Thanks to its direct connection to the rail network, including a future ETCS-equipped 200 km/h line, the site is optimally integrated into the European rail system. The ribbon was cut at a joint ceremony by Peter Spuhler, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Stadler; Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Governor of Lower Austria; Peter Hanke, Federal Minister for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure; and Christian Diewald, CEO of Stadler Austria.
