Don't hum, but buzz

February 23, 2026

In eleven of Switzerland's largest cities, Swiss Post now uses only electric delivery vehicles.  This means that half of its parcels are delivered using purely electric means. In total, over 1,800 electric vehicles are currently on the road,  including 6,000 electric tricycles since 2017. The goal is to operate exclusively electric vehicles by 2030.

They no longer hum – they buzz. The transition isn't happening overnight,  but step by step. A significant milestone was recently  reached in Schaffhausen: While the postal service there has been  delivering letters and smaller packages with electric tricycles for several years, all packages are now also being delivered purely electrically. What's  special is that now only electric vehicles are in use in eleven of the largest cities – ditto.  Nationwide, this means that 50 percent of all packages can now be delivered purely electrically – which corresponds to approximately 90  million packages per year.

In rural areas, the postal service often relies on four-wheel drive vehicles. Since  2025, suitable 4x4 electric vehicles have also been available. According to the postal service, it already has around 50 of these vehicles in operation. The postal service plans to gradually increase this number so that by 2030  all households in rural areas will also be served by electric vehicles.
