New logistics center in Ticino

May 14, 2026

Exactly 15 years after the commissioning of its first logistics center, Galliker is expanding its capacities in southern Switzerland by around 13,279 m² at its Ticino location in S. Antonino and is responding to the increasing demand for specialized logistics space along the north-south axis with the official opening on Wednesday.

The invited guests – including Fabio Regazzi, member of the Council of States for the Canton of Ticino – had the opportunity to visit the modern and sustainable building and learn about the associated logistics processes and services. The new building was designed as a multifunctional logistics center, offering flexible solutions for a wide range of customer needs and product categories.

Two floors are available for storing goods in the ambient, fresh, and refrigerated temperature zones. Goods handling is efficiently managed via 24 loading docks on the ground floor, while two high-performance freight elevators and two pallet lifts ensure a smooth flow of materials across all floors.

In addition to first-class storage and handling areas, the building offers modern office space, social areas, and an inviting lounge. Behind the facade of the logistics center lies a state-of-the-art energy system, fully aligned with the "Green Logistics by Galliker" . Energy is supplied, among other sources, by a 1.17 MWp photovoltaic system on the roof and by using groundwater for heating and cooling.

"Net Zero"system

Together with the existing Logistics Center 1, the S. Antonino site is growing into a comprehensive "Net Zero"system. This includes a medium-voltage area grid, two photovoltaic systems with an annual electricity production of over 2 GWh, a large battery storage system, and e-charging infrastructure with 53 charging points in the future.

In this way, renewable energy, electricity storage, intelligent control, and sustainable mobility are efficiently integrated across the entire site. All the electricity generated by the PV systems can thus be used 100% directly on-site for building operation or emission-free transport.

Ecological perspective

The expanded charging infrastructure enables the charging of the already more than 50% electrified truck fleet at the S. Antonino site, as well as the efficient integration of electric trucks into cross-border traffic between Italy and Switzerland. Combined with the existing rail connection, Galliker is thus making its supply chain particularly sustainable.

Beyond the environmental perspective, rail transport offers a decisive safety advantage over road transport through the Gotthard Tunnel, particularly for sensitive goods such as hazardous materials. Galliker now has a national distribution network with a closed cold chain and a total of 18 branches in 6 countries. The logistics provider currently employs over 3,500 people.
