Instead of calculating the effort for intralogistics as a flat rate, the CoOF factor captures all costs for labor, handling, space, energy, software, maintenance and returns per processed order as a holistic and channel-independent metric.
Analyzing this data reveals how operational structures, process quality, and decisions regarding the use of specific technologies influence the overall profitability of warehousing. By evaluating the benefits of investments based on concrete unit costs using the Cost of Assets (CoOF) factor, fulfillment processes could be managed more efficiently and made more cost-effective.
Manage processes more efficiently
Based on the CoOF approach, companies could identify error costs, staffing needs, or process risks early on. Potential improvements typically lie in personnel costs, which often account for more than half of all order processing costs, or in picking and consolidation, where errors can cause up to €8 in additional costs per order, depending on the industry .
In the fashion industry alone, returns account for 20-35% of fulfillment costs, with delays reducing margins and tying up inventory. Furthermore, space utilization is also a critical factor: while floor-based intralogistics systems require a lot of space with limited throughput, vertical systems, according to Ferfag, improve space efficiency by up to 60%.

Autonomous and mobile robots (AMRs), Ferag states in its own words, can be deployed flexibly, quickly, and scalably – “ offer lower throughput compared to a stationary automation solution. Shuttle systems seem ideally suited for e-commerce with high warehouse density – but require high initial investments and are characterized by a rigid layout . ”
Identify solutions more precisely
Pocket sorters like ferag.skyfall are versatile, combining the process tasks of sorting, buffering and sequencing in a single system and saving energy – but installation is only possible in sufficiently high rooms.
By proactively considering the CoOF factor developed by Ferag Solutions, the most suitable solutions can be identified more precisely than with previously common key figures.
