High insulating properties

Vaccination teams face the challenge of storing vaccines safely and in compliance with regulations until they are actually administered , and transporting them over the last mile. Bito now offers the MB reusable container with thermal insulation insert.

The thermal insulation set has been used in pharmaceutical logistics for years and is therefore also suitable as a storage and transport container for COVID-19 vaccines. It maintains the temperatures required for vaccine transport, ranging from 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, for up to twelve hours. The container is currently being used by many vaccination centers and for mobile vaccination.

" When selecting vaccine transport containers, it is they comply with existing certification guidelines. The thermal insulation insert was specifically developed to meet the ever-increasing requirements of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. therefore perfectly meets the specifications for vaccine transport," says Product Manager Christian Mohr.

The classic MB reusable container is equipped with special wall and lid inserts that offer high insulating properties. In addition, an easy-to-clean inlay is inserted over this insulation for hygienic protection, into which up to three ice packs can be attached. These are further insulated on the inside so that the interior of the container doesn't get too cold. The box can also be sealed with barcodeable seals to protect the vaccine from unauthorized access. Mohr: "When storing and transporting vaccines, the respective outside temperatures must also be taken into account. Our container system is certified in different temperature profiles, a summer and a winter profile. This ensures that the vaccine can be transported in very cold outside temperatures and that the interior does not heat up above the prescribed limits in summer temperatures."

Benjamin Hilger, head of a vaccination center, describes the critical issues that have emerged in the logistical handling of the vaccine. "We receive the BioNTech vaccine in Styrofoam boxes on dry ice. Before vaccination, it removed from the dry ice and thawed in the refrigerator. After about two hours, it can then be processed or stored in the refrigerator for up to five days," explains Hilger. preparation usually takes place directly at the vaccination center. "Our pharmacists prepare the vaccine. For this purpose, it is mixed with saline solution and, after careful mixing, drawn into syringes, which can then be administered."
