EXP15 IFOY

Looking for an autonomous pallet truck? Sometimes, instead of complex IT equipment, an automated version like the EXP15 from EP Equipment will do the trick. Its developers were quick to emphasize its fundamentally much simpler programming during the IFOY test days.

"A simple machine," says Dutch forklift tester Theo Egbert, "that does everything you tell it to." Except, perhaps, for climbing the nearest tree. Otherwise, the user can assign the industrial truck a path in just a few minutes, which, after simply pressing the confirmation button, it can repeat in any sequence, including load pickup. Inevitably, this also brings up the price of €12,000 instead of the €100,000 that this simple machine carries when sold.

Regardless, it's important to keep in mind: The EPX is not an autonomous pallet truck, but an automatic pallet truck—fully programmed with just a few buttons. To automate its operation, all you need to do is pick up the pallet like you would with a standard pallet truck and then simply press the "Save" button. The process consists of "Record" and "Run." This determines whether it automatically drives in a circle or deposits pallets and returns empty for the next round.

Logistics Innovation

presents in loose order

the IFOY nominees

As the world's first automated pallet truck, the EXP15 represents a revolution in warehouse automation. The principle of "innovation through simplicity" offers a touch-and-go solution that eliminates the complexity of other material handling solutions.

The EXP is designed for manual load handling, with the function of simplifying "A to B" transport work for the warehouse team almost "mercilessly" by automatically transporting the workload from receiving to the warehouse, within the warehouse, from the warehouse to production and within the production facilities.

EXP is a permanent time-saver for everyday and time-consuming transport tasks, transforming operations and increasing productivity by allowing one employee to operate multiple pallet trucks simultaneously.

Available with all fork dimensions in length, width, and height, including the option to handle extremely low pallets (Ikea pallets). Comes standard with a plug-in lithium battery (60 Ah, sufficient for one shift). It even includes an integrated interface module that can be activated via app or controlled by a lightweight server over Wi-Fi in a VDA5050 environment.

In 2012, EP Equipment introduced the entry-level 15ET electric pallet truck. This model transitioned users from manual to electric, creating the new market segment of light-duty Class 3.1 electric pallet trucks. Today, the global market for electric pallet trucks comprises nearly one million units.

Now the market is ready for the next stage of innovation. The next step is to convert electric pallet trucks to automated low-lift trucks. The target market for EXP is broad, as it can transport tool pallets, carts, or racks repeatedly and/or over longer distances. EXP can be the next employee for many manufacturing and logistics companies. One worker. Five minutes. Five buttons. That's all it takes to master the EXP15. The EXP15 puts the power of automation in everyone's hands. Any worker can operate it safely; no special training or robotics expertise is required. No Wi-Fi connection, no complex IT system, and no specialized technicians are needed – all that's needed is to place reflectors at the start and end points for paths up to 50 m, and you're ready to go.

Nevertheless, a redundant laser protection system was still needed – both upwards and downwards – to ensure comprehensive coverage and avoid collisions.

IFOY audit

The audit, like all the others, took place at the end of March as part of the Intralogistics Test Camp at the Dortmund Trade Fair Center. An international jury of experts, consisting of leading trade journalists from leading logistics media, selects the winners based on transparent and independent evaluation criteria. The award is sponsored by the Materials Handling and Intralogistics and Robotics + Automation associations within the VDMA (German Mechanical and Plant Engineering Association). The Federal Minister of Economics serves as patron.

The decision as to who will take home an “Oscar of Intralogistics” at the “International Forklift of the Year” (IFOY) Award at the gala on July 3 at the Phoenix des Lumières in Dortmund will be made anonymously.
