Safety Guard for the ATEX zone

In explosion-protected zones, the prevention of accidents involving industrial trucks is even more important than in normal warehouse or production areas. This makes it all the more important that the Linde assistance systems are now also available for explosion-protected industrial trucks in ATEX Zones 2/22.
Forklifts that warn each other of collisions, automatically reduce their speed, and know whether or not they are permitted to enter a warehouse area: These assistance functions help fleet operators in the chemical, pharmaceutical, or food industries avoid accidents that can have particularly serious consequences in sensitive environments – in the worst case, they could result in the release of hazardous substances or an explosion with far-reaching consequences for people and infrastructure. " Our explosion-proof forklifts are close to series production. This enables us to offer many solutions from our standard portfolio in modified form for ATEX zones," says Elke Karnarski from the Ex-Proof Trucks & Retrofit Solutions division at Linde MH .
The Safety Guard can be selected as a customized solution for all explosion-proof electric forklifts from the goods handling specialist. This assistance system targets particularly common, potentially hazardous situations – such as vehicle collisions at confusing intersections or in front of poorly visible rack aisles. Equipped with a "Truck Unit" certified for Zones 2/22, the explosion-proof industrial trucks recognize each other and automatically slow down as soon as they fall within a predefined distance. In addition, speed limits in entire halls or specific sections are a frequently required accident prevention requirement in ATEX areas. "Zone markers" on walls or ceilings automatically slow all trucks to a predefined speed.
Equally important is compliance with access restrictions in ATEX zones. In this case, the Safety Guard functions as a "gatekeeper," allowing only explosion-proof vehicles to enter these areas. If the driver of a standard vehicle attempts to cross the imaginary threshold, the vehicle slows to a crawling speed. A projector can be coupled to the gatekeeper, which projects a large ATEX warning symbol on the floor, indicating entry into the sensitive zone.
The Safety Guard is based on ultra-wideband technology and operates in the high-frequency range. A major advantage is that the signal penetrates walls and does not interfere with other networks such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or RFID.
