Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly common in the commercial vehicle industry. But what about dump trucks, pumps, jacks, and other on-board work equipment? ZF and Mercedes-Benz Trucks are currently launching their integrated eWorX system.

ZF's all-in-one solution offers vehicle and body manufacturers the opportunity to continue operating a wide range of work equipment, such as mixers and cranes, locally emission-free in electric commercial vehicles. ZF has developed two demonstration vehicles in close cooperation with Mercedes-Benz Trucks and the body manufacturers Meiller and Palfinger. One eActros was built as a skip loader with Palfinger, and another eActros as a hookloader with Meiller. Both demonstration vehicles will make their debut on May 30 at the IFAT 2022 global trade fair in Munich .

"With eWorX, our electrification portfolio extends far beyond the powertrain," says Wilhelm Rehm, ZF Board Member responsible for the new Commercial Vehicle Solutions division. eWorX represents an important step in the electric transformation of commercial vehicles. The solution ensures zero local emissions while significantly facilitates operation in cities and residential areas .
The eWorX system installed in the demonstration vehicles features an electric motor with a rated output of 50 kW, an inverter and a control unit with application-specific software, a cooling system, and a hydraulic pump. eWorX acts as an interface between the vehicle and the work equipment and communicates via a connection to the vehicle's CAN bus. The system operates independently of the drive system and is therefore suitable for electric axle drives and central drives. The traction battery of the electric vehicle supplies the ZF eWorX system with electrical energy. The eWorX electric motor then drives the hydraulic pump for the work equipment.
