U. Häner, H.-P.Trachsler

Hans-Peter Trachsler has headed the management of the Swiss subsidiary from Urs Häner, who will be retiring . , Trachsler explain the transition.

Question: Mr. Trachsler, you currently share an office with Urs Häner. Is that going well?

Trachsler : Yes, it's actually working extremely well. We get along very well . The proximity promotes an intensive exchange of ideas and facilitates necessary coordination. Urs Häner has been with Dachser for 25 years. He knows how the business works, he loves the company, and is very good at conveying the "Dachser spirit." I find him very open and cooperative. Our discussions focus, among other things, on what new impulses I want to provide. We want to maintain what works well and increase agility in these complex times. The handover of responsibilities is a fluid process. Where it makes sense, we make decisions together. Otherwise, Urs Häner will continue to run the business as before for the time being.

Mr. Häner, what is the status of the company that you are now handing over to Hans-Peter Trachsler?

Häner : Dachser Switzerland has a proven and robust business model, motivated employees, and a strong customer portfolio. Despite the pandemic, we presented excellent balance sheet and income statements for 2020 and 2021. Our expectations were also met in the first quarter of 2022. , how business will develop given the current circumstances (war in Ukraine, inflation, shortage of skilled workers, COVID-19). We currently anticipate slight growth for 2022 as a whole.

Mr. Trachsler, what are the challenges of your new role?

Trachsler : I was "socialized" at DB Schenker over many years. I knew the company inside and out. How to navigate within it, which levers I needed to pull to be successful. At Dachser, I'm now getting to know a new culture. I have to get to grips with and understand new processes—in short, learn new things. Dachser is successful. There are reasons for that. I want gradually learn them . At the same time, I have to test how I can contribute to the company and what I can do to increase its success.

Corporation vs. family business – how do you manage the cultural change?

Trachsler : The newness, the move to a family business, appealed to me . But Dachser also has certain corporate structures. I'm currently putting in the miles, so to speak, to get to know the company better. For example, personal encounters with Dachser Switzerland employees and customers are a priority.

What goals have you set for yourself?

Trachsler : Dachser has grown significantly over the past decade. Despite the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the company is well positioned and has ambitious plans for the coming years. I want to continue to drive Dachser Switzerland forward in this corporate environment – together with all of our employees. I see great potential for us as a successful logistics service provider in Switzerland.

Häner : The company will continue to drive the digitalization of its processes. Projects to be implemented in the near future include the adaptation of Swiss customs software, electronic invoicing (e-invoicing), digitized local transport 2.0, and climate protection measures. For example, our Regensdorf (ZH) branch will be expanded in 2024 and our Lyss (BE) branch in 2025, and will be electrified in a climate-friendly manner (solar systems, e-mobility, etc.).

Mr. Trachsler, how important are performance orientation and social responsibility to you?

Trachsler : For me, performance goes hand in hand with social responsibility and resources. Dachser is proud of its corporate culture. Important elements of this culture are humanity, professionalism, clear principles, and innovative thinking. In such a culture, sustainable profit orientation and social responsibility are not mutually exclusive.

What do you personally consider to be your own strengths?

Trachsler : I'm an authentic person who leads collaboratively, a team player who involves my employees in decision-making processes . I'm also very customer-focused . It's important to me that we listen to our customers, that they understand our services, and engage in dialogue with us. Only then can we create a win-win situation. I want my work to be enjoyable for both me and my employees.

Mr. Häner, you worked at Dachser Switzerland for almost 25 years, the last eight of which were as Managing Director of European Logistics Switzerland. What are your plans for the future?

H äner : First, I want to travel to the Northern Cape. Then, I want to improve my Italian in Italy. I'm also planning to do some charity work in South Africa. Finally, I want to work on my golf handicap. There's still room for improvement there .
