Gotland without murder and manslaughter

"Fossil-free" doesn't mean prehistoric finds or crime series featuring aging protagonists playing "aftermath" on the island of Gotland. Rather, it's about the DB Schenker subsidiary Åkeri AB's goal to make all truck distribution transport there, with the help of Scania, non - combustion engines by .

Four electric Scania P25 distribution trucks and Scania PHEV hybrid trucks are part of DB Schenker's transition to fossil-free transport on Gotland. The goal is to become the world's leading island region in terms of sustainability. What DB Schenker is doing, they say, is something very special: the company is tackling an entire region.

"We're already operating electric vehicles throughout Sweden and know how well it works. Now we're taking the next step and investing in the electrification of distribution across an entire region to make a real impact. In addition, we're gaining valuable insights into electrified operations both in urban areas with many stops and starts, and in rural areas with distances of more than 300 km," says Viktor Strömblad, Head of Land at DB Schenker.

"It's a good feeling to be building a fossil-free and virtually emission-free distribution network. What's special about this investment is that we're taking over an entire distribution area," says Jonas Jävert, Head of Innovation & Purchasing at Schenker Åkeri. Gotland's size is ideal for electrification of transport.

“We see the same potential for DB Schenker’s international truck fleet in the future,” says Scania Sales Director Evalena Falck.
