Kion and Siemens together in a parallel universe

The two companies have entered into a strategic partnership to future-proof supply chains and warehouses using AI, automation, and simulation technologies. The goal: to digitize complex intralogistics processes to make them more predictable and flexible – thereby improving productivity and resilience.

Enormous amounts of data

Cameras and sensors on site capture vast amounts of data, which are then Siemens' new Digital Twin Composer simulation software simulate the various processes in parallel and in real time.

Cedrik Neike, member of the Siemens board and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries: Together with Kion (…) we want to transform the warehouse from a physical node into a digital nerve center of the supply chain.

This allows us to develop our digital twin-based solutions to a new level says Kion CEO Rob Smith. Siemens first presented the Digital Twin Composer in January at CES in Las Vegas. It offers several advantages.

Once a warehouse is operational, it functions as a toolbox for continuously improving processes. Combined with Siemens PLM software Teamcenter and digital twins, Kion can use it to manage logistics solutions across the entire product lifecycle.

Faster development cycles

PepsiCo has already digitized selected production and storage sites in the USA and reportedly achieved faster development cycles, lower investment costs and the identification of up to 90 percent of potential problems before the physical setup of real storage environments.

With the Digital Twin Composer, industrial companies can combine 2D and 3D data from Siemens' comprehensive digital twin with real-time physical information in a managed, secure, and photorealistic real-time scene, which also utilizes NVIDIA Omniverse libraries.

Data exchange agreed

As part of their collaboration, Siemens and Kion have also entered into an agreement for the exchange of selected industrial data. Kion will contribute operational data and expertise from complex warehouse environments. The companies aim to accelerate the adoption of AI-supported solutions in warehouse logistics and supply chains.

At the same time, the agreement exemplifies data-driven partnerships with which Siemens aims to advance the development of an " Industrial Foundation Model " This model is intended to make industrial AI more broadly applicable across industrial processes and domains in the future.
