Movianto, a logistics provider specializing in pharmaceuticals and healthcare, is opening a new cold storage warehouse in Wiesloch-Walldorf this month. A photovoltaic system there will produce approximately 3100 MWh per year, more than the site consumes.

“This will double our refrigerated storage capacity, and for the first time we will also be offering frozen food logistics in Germany,” says Dennis Spamer, Managing Director of Movianto for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. A long-term lease agreement with the Belgian family-owned company VGP has been signed, and the building is already complete. “We can begin the interior fit-out this month and plan to commission the facility in two phases in the second and third quarters of 2026.”
Long-term lease
The new site is being developed by VGP, a Europe-wide owner, developer, and manager of logistics and light industrial properties. It is located near the Walldorf interchange, where the A5 and A6 motorways intersect. Movianto is leasing 30,000 square meters of warehouse space and 1,500 square meters of office space in the business park, adjacent to the headquarters of the software company SAP. VGP designed the building specifically to meet the logistics provider's requirements.
Movianto location in Neuenegg, Switzerland
The entire warehouse is temperature-controlled and divided into different temperature zones. "Initially, we will have space for 30,000 pallet spaces in the ambient zone, i.e., at 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. In the second phase, we will have around 10,000 spaces in the refrigerated zone at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, and 1,200 in the deep-freeze zone at minus 20 degrees Celsius," explains Spamer. "If required, we also offer deep-freeze storage at minus 40 degrees Celsius and ultra-low temperature storage down to minus 80 degrees Celsius."
Two-shift operation
Movianto plans to operate on a two-shift system and employ up to 180 people. "Because the facility is barrier-free, we can, for example, also employ people who use wheelchairs."
To comply with EU Good Distribution Practice (GDP) regulations for pharmaceuticals, all processes, from goods receipt and storage to order picking and shipping, are GDP-certified. Once Movianto also assumes manufacturing responsibilities at the site, a corresponding GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) license is planned. To ensure the highest possible security standards, Movianto is also pursuing TAPA-C certification for the site. The Transport Asset Protection Association (TAPA), founded by shippers, is a global organization dedicated to protecting sensitive goods, defining the highest security standards, and verifying compliance through specific certifications.
