Trachsler takes over Swiss direction

June 2, 2022

U. Häner, H.-P. Trachsler

the in Regensdorf since March , management of the Swiss national company from Urs Häner, who will be retiring. In , Trachsler explain the transition.

Question: Mr. Trachsler, you currently share an office with Urs Häner. Is that working out well?

Trachsler : Yes, it's working exceptionally well. We get along very well . The close proximity fosters an intensive exchange of ideas and facilitates necessary coordination. Urs Häner has been with Dachser for 25 years. He knows how the business works, he loves the company, and he's very good at conveying the "Dachser spirit." I find him to be very open and collaborative. Our discussions focus, among other things, on what new initiatives I'd like to introduce. The aim is to preserve what works well and increase agility in these complex times. The handover of responsibilities is a fluid process. Where it makes sense, we decide together. Otherwise, Urs Häner will continue to manage the business as before for the time being.

Mr. Häner, what is the status of the company that you are now handing over to Hans-Peter Trachsler?

Häner : Dachser Switzerland has a proven and robust business model, motivated employees, and a strong customer portfolio. Despite the pandemic, we presented excellent balance sheets and income statements for 2020 and 2021. Our expectations were also met in the first quarter of 2022. However, how business will develop given the current circumstances (war in Ukraine, inflation, skills shortage, Covid-19). We currently anticipate slight growth for the full year 2022.

Mr. Trachsler, what are the challenges of your new role?

Trachsler : I was "socialized" at DB Schenker for many years. I knew the company inside and out. How to navigate it, which levers to pull to be successful. At Dachser, I'm now getting to know a new culture. I have to familiarize myself with new processes and understand them—in short, learn new things. Dachser is successful. There are reasons for that. I want to gradually learn them . At the same time, I need to explore how I can contribute to the company and what I can do to increase its success.

Corporation vs. family business – how do you manage the cultural shift?

Trachsler : The novelty, the move to a family business, appealed to me . But Dachser also has certain corporate structures. I'm currently covering a lot of ground, so to speak, to get to know the company better and better. Personal meetings with the employees of Dachser Switzerland and with customers are a key focus.

What goals have you set for yourself?

Trachsler : Dachser has grown strongly over the last decade. Despite the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the company is well-positioned and has ambitious plans for the coming years. I want to further advance Dachser Switzerland within this corporate environment – together with all our employees. I see great potential for us as a successful logistics provider in Switzerland.

Mr. Häner, what specific challenges does Dachser Switzerland face in the medium term?

Häner : The company will continue to drive the digitalization of its processes. Projects to be implemented in the near future include, among others, adapting the Swiss customs software, electronic invoicing (e-invoicing), digitalized local public transport 2.0, and climate protection measures. For example, our Regensdorf (ZH) branch is to be expanded and electrified in a climate-friendly manner in 2024, and the Lyss (BE) branch in 2025 (solar panels, e-mobility, etc.).

Mr. Trachsler, what importance do performance orientation and social responsibility have for you?

Trachsler : For me, performance goes hand in hand with social responsibility and resources. Dachser is proud of its corporate culture. Key elements of this culture are humanity, professionalism, clear principles, and innovative thinking. In such a culture, sustainable profit orientation and social responsibility are not mutually exclusive.

What do you personally consider to be your own strengths?

Trachsler : I'm an authentic person who leads collaboratively, a team player who involves his employees in decision-making processes . I'm also very customer-oriented . It's important to me that we listen to our customers, that they understand our services, and that we engage in dialogue. Only then can we create a win-win situation. Work should be enjoyable for me and my employees.

Mr. Häner, you were with Dachser Switzerland for almost 25 years, the last eight of which as Managing Director European Logistics Switzerland. What are your plans for the future?

Häner : First of all, I'd like to travel to the North Cape. Then I want to improve my Italian in Italy. I also have charitable work projects planned in South Africa. Finally, I want to work on my golf handicap. There's still room for improvement there .
