With a cooling capacity of up to 4.5 kW – and thus not much more than twice that of a normal domestic fan heater – Thermo King offers the new all-electric E-500e for delivery journeys in low and zero emission zones as well as diesel ban zones.
The manufacturer of cooling and temperature-controlled units announces the model as a new "flagship" for inner-city deliveries and a sustainable solution for reducing CO2 emissions in its all-electric E-Series for electric light commercial vehicles (e-LCVs).
The company has thus commenced production of the new E-500e single and multi-temperature models for fleet operators in urban logistics. Product Manager Davide Fusciani: "The E-Series is not only 100% electric, but also inherently energy-efficient, with unsurpassed cooling performance, making it ideally suited for urban areas.".
“In developing this model, we are meeting the European Union’s requirement to reduce CO₂ emissions from new trucks by 90% by 2040 and are offering the right solutions to make operations future-proof. Further models will follow,” said Fusciani.

The E-500e is designed to utilize the full potential of electric cooling while minimizing its impact on the electric vehicle's battery and range. Inverter technology, patented energy management, and real-time communication between the unit and the vehicle ensure maximum cooling performance, energy efficiency, and power supply with minimal impact on the vehicle's performance.
The E-500e is powered directly by the vehicle's battery, eliminating the need for an additional battery pack or mains connection module. Drivers can run the refrigeration unit while the electric vehicle is parked for charging or unloading.
The brand-new, high-speed compressor, independent of the vehicle's engine speed, offers cooling and optionally a heating mode. Thanks to its compact design, which delivers high performance at half the weight of its predecessor, the unit can be relatively easily mounted on vans, chassis cab trucks, and other types of vehicle conversions.
