The figures for developments in the Swiss labor market reflect the effects of the Corona crisis . In the transport sector, there are currently 6899 employed persons unemployed, percent more than in the previous month, and 2155 (45 percent) more than in the same month of the previous year.
According to SECO (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs), the negative effects of the crisis on companies and employees have been the massive use of short-time work compensation . Nevertheless, the number of registered job seekers and unemployed rose sharply from a low starting point in mid-March. According to SECO's data, this resulted in an average unemployment rate of 3.1 percent for 2020.
According to statistics, 219,388 people were affected by short-time work in October , 15,197 more (+7.4 percent) than in the previous month. The number of affected companies increased by 2,663 (+13.2 percent) to the current total of 22,853 . The number of lost working hours rose by 940,177 (+7.9 percent) to 12.8 million hours , 129,600 lost working hours were recorded, affecting 1,772 people in 113 companies.
