TINA stands for "Total Integrated Low-Floor Drive". The city of Halle, with 240,000 inhabitants, located on the Saale river, has signed a delivery contract with rail manufacturer Stadler for 56 trams of this type, the first of which are scheduled to roll through the streets of the second largest city in Saxony-Anhalt from 2025 onwards.

The order from Hallesche Verkehrs-AG (HAVAG) is the fourth for the innovative vehicle concept. Stadler launched the newly developed TINA tram at the beginning of 2020 and has already secured four orders in just two years. Following the initial order in 2020 from HEAG Mobilo GmbH in Darmstadt, and subsequent orders from the Swiss transport company Baselland Transport (BLT) and Rostocker Strassenbahn AG (RSAG), HAVAG has now also opted for TINA.

With the "Totally Integrated Low-Floor Drive," the vehicles can be designed to be significantly more spacious, seamless, and comfortable for passengers. Bidirectional vehicles in two different lengths have been ordered, which can be deployed as needed. 39 vehicles of the future MGT-M type will have a length of approximately 30 meters and offer space for 166 passengers, 64 of whom will be seated. The longer MGT-XL type, at 45 meters, will be built 17 times and will offer space for 267 passengers, 96 of whom will be seated.

The new trains will feature an air-conditioned passenger compartment that does not heat up during the hot season, quieter ride comfort, wider doors, no steps throughout the vehicle, wider aisles, improved holding facilities, modern information systems and innovative driver assistance systems, including collision avoidance systems.

During the development of the new generation of vehicles, particular attention was paid to passenger comfort

The fully accessible, barrier-free vehicles feature a spacious, air-conditioned interior and roomy multi-purpose areas that allow for the comfortable transport of strollers and wheelchairs. Maximum headroom and panoramic windows create an open feel, while modern monitors provide easily readable passenger information. All new trams are equipped with modern, cashless ticket machines, a video surveillance system, and the BIOS system – a new technology developed in Halle to improve information and orientation for blind and visually impaired passengers on public transport.

HAVAG currently has a total of 102 trams in operation on 14 lines in the city of Halle.
