Production will take place in Switzerland, delivery in Norway: Train manufacturer Stadler has been awarded the contract for 17 "Flirt Nordic Express" trains with an option for up to 83 more. The trains, capable of speeds up to 200 km/h, have up to 542 seats and, depending on their area of operation, feature either electric or bi-modal propulsion.

Stadler is thus delivering the latest generation of long-distance trains for use throughout Norway. The first Flirt Nordic Express trains are expected to replace the older trains in the existing fleet on the Bergen line starting in 2026. The version with a bi-modal option also allows operation on non-electrified lines.
"Our companies share a long-standing and innovative partnership. Stadler recently delivered the 150th Flirt to Norske tog. The Flirt has proven itself as a successful modular concept – even under the harsh climatic conditions in Norway. Stadler is extremely proud to be delivering the next generation of long-distance trains to Norway," says Ansgar Brockmeyer, Executive Vice President and Deputy Group CEO of Stadler.

“We look forward to continuing our successful partnership with Stadler. The Flirt trains are already the backbone of the Norwegian railway, and we are confident that the new Flirt Nordic Express will make a significant contribution to making the train the most desirable way to travel in Norway. The new Flirt Nordic Express trains will transform travel into a pleasant experience, not just a means of transport,” says Øystein Risan, CEO of Norske tog.
Stadler placed great emphasis on passenger comfort in the development of the new trains – for both day and night journeys. The Flirt Nordic Express offers seats that recline on both sides, flexible sleeping compartments, bistro and family areas, and ample luggage space.

Passengers can choose between sleeping berths with adjustable seats and sleeping compartments with two or four beds. During the day, the sleeping compartments can be converted into private seating areas for both families and business travelers. The reclining seats can be used both day and night.
