Researchers Fraunhofer IML have set up a "Picking Lab" as part of a "Logistics and IT" performance center, where the different variants can be tested.
Smart glasses, pick-by-voice, or the classic pick list with scanner? There are many ways to carry out order picking. Companies often don't know which technology is best suited to their warehouse. To address this, have now been set up to create realistic and standardized test conditions.
“In our Picking Lab, typical intralogistics areas such as e-commerce, small parts picking, or load handling can be simulated. We examine and evaluate the technologies according to ergonomic criteria and objective performance criteria in a person-to-goods picking setting,” explains Veronika Kretschmer, research associate at Fraunhofer IML.
Within the framework of the Picking Lab, the institute collaborates with various companies: Partners include the WMS provider Logistics Reply GmbH, the WMS and pick-by-voice provider proLogistik, the ePaper and pick-by-light provider Crosscan, and the warehouse and operating equipment provider Bito , which has built a similar test center.
