Since this summer, Gebrüder Weiss has been supplying private households and companies on the Croatian islands of Rab and Lošinj using electric tricycles - ideal for deliveries in small towns, holiday resorts and national parks – especially during the holiday season.

It’s important to preserve the authenticity and uniqueness of the islands. By delivering with our e-trikes, we’re helping to ensure that the islands retain their original charm. And our customers receive their online orders in an environmentally friendly way says Barbara Bujačić, Country Manager Croatia at Gebrüder Weiss. The vehicle can transport shipments with a total weight of up to 500 kg and travel 50 km per day on a single battery charge.

In addition to electric tricycles, Gebrüder Weiss has recently begun using electric vans for deliveries to end customers in Zagreb, Croatia. Whether furniture, washing machines, or refrigerators and fitness equipment – Gebrüder Weiss delivers goods to wherever customers need them. The vehicles have a range of 170 km on a single battery charge, enabling up to 35 environmentally friendly deliveries per day. The e-vans are ideally suited for urban transport and, thanks to their quiet electric motors, reduce traffic noise. The vehicles' batteries are charged via a dedicated photovoltaic system, which the company recently commissioned at its headquarters near Zagreb. Installed on the roof of the logistics facility, the system has a total peak output of 500 kW per year and saves approximately 107 tons of CO2 annually .

With these sustainable measures in Croatia, Gebrüder Weiss is taking another step towards its goal of climate neutrality by 2030. For several years, the company has been investing in alternative drive systems for heavy goods vehicles and developing low-emission solutions for last-mile delivery. For example, an electric truck is used for local transport in the greater Vienna area, and electric vehicles are used to deliver to end customers in Austria and Hungary. Furthermore, one of the world's first hydrogen-powered trucks has been in regular operation in Switzerland since 2021. The acquisition of additional hydrogen and electric trucks is planned for Germany in 2024.
