A Norwegian clean-tech company called Teco, which develops PEM hydrogen fuel cell stacks and modules for the shipping and heavy industries, has entered into an agreement with an unnamed vehicle manufacturer to jointly develop zero-emission systems.

According to the letter of intent, the Norwegians plan to support the unnamed "European Motor Company" with FCM400 modules in the development of an integrated skid/container fuel cell system for its market segments. The agreement also includes the use of an "FCM400" module within the framework of ongoing projects. The vehicle manufacturer ultimately intends to sell and market its solution under the brand supported by Teco – if the collaboration proves successful.

“Together, we will develop a concept for the company’s industry to become a pioneer in this field and simultaneously transition to a more sustainable alternative,” says Teco CEO Tore Enger. There is no doubt that hydrogen will play a key role in the decarbonization of various industries and that fuel cells are an efficient propulsion system that can be powered by hydrogen.

Teco 2030 is currently building Europe's first gigabyte production plant for hydrogen PEM fuel cell stacks and modules in Narvik. The plant is scheduled to be operational by 2023 and early 2024, with a target production capacity of 120 MW of fuel cells in 2024, 400 MW in 2025, and 1.6 GW in 2030.

Teco, or more precisely "Teco 2030", is the spin-off of the Teco Maritime Group, a group that has been providing technology and services to the global shipping industry since 1994.
