Cyber attack repelled
May 25, 2023
Until now, intralogistics providers could consider themselves relatively safe from internet attacks. This is likely to remain the case. SSI Schäfer, however, was able to prevent a cyberattack in which hackers were about to encrypt company data and then presumably attempt to extort a ransom.
The immediate threat has therefore subsided, and the company is currently in the process of restarting all systems, according to company statements. A security report, which was conducted urgently, confirmed the security of customer data and systems.
According to the company, the incident was detected early thanks to effective security infrastructure and continuous monitoring. Following an immediate risk assessment, all network connections between the company's locations were nevertheless disconnected as a precaution, and all internet traffic was blocked. This swift response prevented the encryption of the systems, which would have likely led to disruptions. Customer data and connections to customer systems were thus successfully protected from unauthorized access.
The findings from the extensive security scans and forensic analyses, it was stated, suggested a general attack, not specifically targeting SSI Schäfer, but rather a broader attack against companies of this size. The trigger was a phishing email campaign with a malicious attachment, which introduced malware, although no emails had yet been stolen. Before the malware could be activated, countermeasures had already been initiated, the IT network shut down, and customer connections severed. The security of customer data, which is of the highest priority, "was and remains guaranteed.".

According to the company, most of the intralogistics provider's systems and platforms are now running normally again. This largely ensures that projects can be delivered on time and in full, and that all services can be provided. The company's local websites, where information on products, solutions, and services of all kinds can be found, are therefore accessible as usual.
Production facilities are operating normally and delivering as usual. The service hotline is functioning smoothly and is fully available . The IT environment is secure .
