MAGA in the approach path
April 15, 2026
German technology remains highly regarded when it comes to rapid material handling, the elimination of weaknesses, and service quality. Following successful projects in Oklahoma and Texas, the steel trader " Steel and Pipe Supply " (SPS) in Kansas City once again relied on Kasto saws and storage systems.

Rent warehouse equipment instead of buying it
April 15, 2026
Bito is launching an offensive with an economical alternative for companies that want to re-equip, expand, or temporarily supplement their warehouse and production areas, but don't want to tie up their capital long-term: renting instead of buying is the motto. The advantages – especially in " dynamic times " – are obvious.

Streamlined logistics
April 15, 2026
Coop's own rail connection for urban logistics in Zurich, streamlined logistics vehicles and the outsourcing of all operating room logistics in a cooperation between the Seeschau Clinic and the Swiss Post are the projects that are entering the final sprint for this year's Swiss Logistics Award from GS1.

Vacuum technology makes mobility possible
April 14, 2026
Compressed air has traditionally been used primarily for fixed installations. Schmalz's vacuum grippers also mainly operate with lines that often have to run across halls and facilities. However, mobile robotics increasingly requires flexible solutions – a need that Schmalz now intends to address more effectively.

A foray into drive technology

Drone rally for wind farm service
June 20, 2024

Offshore wind farms are often located up to 100 km off the coast. Long travel distances by ship or helicopter make maintenance and repair of the installations a challenge. In the future, drones could be used to transport tools, materials, and personnel to these locations.
EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) are currently hosting a two-day "Offshore Drone Challenge" at the DLR's National Test Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems in Cochstedt. International drone companies are competing against each other in a course designed to simulate material transport in offshore wind energy, from drone launch to placing the load on the wind turbine. Companies such as ADLC (operator of Phoenix Wings), Flowcopter, Stromkind, and Solectric (operator of DJI) are presenting their drone technologies.

“The intensive exchange of knowledge with authorities, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), and the German Armed Forces, industrial collaborations, and technology transfer to industry are always important to us,” said Anke Kaysser-Pyzalla, Chair of the Executive Board of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). “That’s why I’m particularly pleased about the ‘Offshore Drone Challenge’ jointly organized by EnBW and DLR at the Cochstedt site. Together with the participating drone economy startups, we are generating new momentum for the maintenance and operation of offshore wind turbines. This once again demonstrates how the DLR National Test Center in Cochstedt strengthens Germany’s and Europe’s leading international role in new aviation technologies for unmanned flight.”

Peter Heydecker, EnBW Board Member for Sustainable Generation Infrastructure: “As an experienced operator of offshore wind farms, we want to contribute to making this new logistics approach a standard service worldwide. Transport drones will play a key role in reducing the operating costs of offshore wind farms, increasing safety, and ensuring the reliability of energy generation.”
Small drones are already in use in offshore wind farms. Equipped with thermal imaging cameras, they fly around the rotor blades and provide photos that can reveal damage. However, the range and payload of small drones are limited. This research project, on the other hand, focuses on the future potential of drones, as replacing ship transport requires flights of around 100 km out to sea and a payload of 200 kg.

The companies ADLC, Stromkind, and Solectric will demonstrate their capabilities in competitive flights on site. Flowcopter is reportedly exhibiting the largest of the drones presented.
