Crane technology for rail
September 7, 2022

A new product range of railway loading cranes from Hiab, a subsidiary of Cargotec, is designed to support infrastructure providers in lifting operations – from maintenance and repair to heavy lifting operations as part of recovery work on and around the railway.
The new lifting technology is being launched with the SPACEevo control system. The development of the new RAIL series is geared towards complex regulations and demanding requirements in the railway sector. The new cranes are ideally suited for the repair and maintenance of rail networks. Hiab will present the iX.122 RAIL model at the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hanover from September 20th to 25th.
Hiab will offer railway wagon manufacturers a significantly wider selection of cranes in the future. "With our experience in road freight handling, we can now offer the reliability, advanced features, and safety for which our truck-mounted cranes are known, also for use on the rails," explains Marcel Boxem, Director, Global Product Management, Loader Cranes Heavy & Super Heavy at Hiab.

According to Hiab, the new railway loading cranes are designed to cover all performance areas, from smaller devices suitable for track maintenance and repair, such as mowing and gripping work, to extremely heavy models planned for the future that will be able to handle even the biggest challenges.
Depending on customer requirements, the railway loading cranes can be designed to comply with EN 15746, EN 14033, EN 50128 and EN 13849. Options such as grounding and equipotential bonding, adjacent track operation and height restrictions are also available as customizable features.
